In this interview, Zora Neale Hurston talks about zombies. She discusses how she believes that the Haitian zombies that she researched were not actually dead. Since Haiti buries their dead in above-ground graves (see above), much like in New Orleans, she believes that zombies are not actually dead, but buried and then "reanimated" in a drugged state.
