Begging for a zombie apocalypse?

Look no further! Science is finding ways for it to become possible! After realizing how possible it can be from here, you might decide you don't want one. No amount of Black Ops 2: Nazi zombies, can help you prepare for this. Maybe they'll start researching for a cure too!

Zombie Anime

There actually aren't very many zombie animes much to my surprise. Zombie-oriented anime, however, is growing rapidly. The one that I have seen is called Highschool of the Dead. The anime centers around a group of high school students that try to survive a zombie apocalypse. This anime features a rule of zombies that I had not heard of: zombies can't see. It's interesting to see how they actually evolve and differ from media to media.

Sankarea is a strange anime based on zombies. A boy is obsessed with zombies to the point he wants to be with one in a relationship. A girl later turns into a zombie and he pursues her. Wow! That really is weird!

Shaun of the Dead

Shaun of the Dead is a comedic film based on zombies. It takes a different approach than most zombie films because of its comedic elements. The zombies end up becoming tools of entertainment towards the uninfected.

Movies such as Frankenweenie and Tim Burton's The Corpse Bride, are just friendly ways to show kids that zombies do exist........

Young Victor conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences.

Doomsday Preppers

This National Geographic Show featured an episode about a Zombie Apocalypse.

International zombie films

While the zombie film industry seems to be dominated by American films these days, these foreign zombie films are worth taking a look at.

The Beyond (1981): This Italian film depicts a young woman who unleashes hordes of bloody zombies from hell after a few strange events at a Louisiana hotel.

REC (2007): A journalist in Spain follows firefighters to a call. An old woman soon turns out to be a zombie. Soon, a virus spreads, and the journalist is trapped in a building with only her camera for company.

Juan of the Dead (2011): The zombie apocalypse happening in Cuba is dismissed by the government as rebels. Juan decides to make a business of killing zombies, but it puts him and his friends in danger.

Stacy (2001): This bizarre Japanese film involves young girls dropping dead, then resurrecting to attack the nearest person. There are several references to other zombie films within, including a zombie killing team named the "Romero Repeat-Kill Troops."

George Romero's influence on the zombie genre

George Romero is most well known for the genre-altering film, Night of the Living Dead. However, he created many more zombie films than just that one. He is considered a pioneer in the zombie genre.

Night of the Living Dead (1968): The film that changed the genre. Instead of mindless slaves, zombies now wander with the intent to eat human flesh. At least two remakes have been made to varying degrees of success.

Dawn of the Dead (1975): There was a remake in 2004 that had similar zombies, though there were signifigant differences.

Day of the Dead (1985): A zombie apocolypse set in an underground bunker filled with military personnel.

Land of the Dead (2005): Takes place three years after a zombie apocolypse. Some zombies in the movie are shown to have brains (and not ones that they took from people).

Diary of the Dead (2007): A prequel to Night of the Living Dead that documents teenagers making a horror film in the woods.

Before George Romero, there was White Zombie

George Romero created the modern zombie in 1968. Zombie movies did not begin with him, however. Two major films before the modern zombie era were White Zombie and its sequel, Revenge of the Zombies.

White Zombie made its debut in 1932, and told a story of a man who steals the woman he loves from her fiance by turning her into a mindless zombie. However, the man who helped him turn her refuses to turn her back when asked, and only adds the poor guy to the zombie slaves on his plantation.

The sequel to White Zombie, Revenge of the Zombies, was released in 1943. This film depicts the same mindless slave zombies as White Zombie, but this time gives the power to create zombies to nazis.

The Zombie Apocalypse

The zombie apocalypse, the end of the world due to zombie infestation, has become a hotly debated subject, and a huge part of zombie culture. Scientifically speaking, could it actually happen? This video shows how a zombie apocalypse might come to be.

Zombie Porn

Zombies have affected everything, including the adult entertainment industry. Dawna of the Dead is a movie where zombies rape women in order to turn them into zombies.

Zombies have infected (pun intended) sex in general. Here we see a magazine cover with an ad for a series called The XXXORCIST.

What zombie porn collection would be complete without Re-Penetrator? It is a parody of the famous zombie movie Re-Animator.

Zombie Games

Zora Neale Hurston on Zombies

Haitian cemetery
In this interview, Zora Neale Hurston talks about zombies. She discusses how she believes that the Haitian zombies that she researched were not actually dead. Since Haiti buries their dead in above-ground graves (see above), much like in New Orleans, she believes that zombies are not actually dead, but buried and then "reanimated" in a drugged state.

1985 The Return of the Living Dead

The Return of the Living Dead
